About the Project

The goal of the project is to enhance the safety and well-being of the citizens of southern Nevada, and increase the area’s economic stability by improving understanding of earthquake hazards and risks, and enhancing abilities to mitigate the hazards. To accomplish the goal, the team is refining knowledge of local and regional deep geologic structure, near-surface lithology, and active faulting; improving capacity for long-term seismic monitoring; anticipating credible site-specific seismic response; assessing seismic safety of key structures and lifelines; and informing the general public of earthquake risks and mitigation strategies.

Our Collaborators

The University of Nevada Las Vegas College of Science, and College of Engineering are teamed with New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and Washington State University for the purpose of this project. This project is sponsored by the United States Department of Energy-Office of Science.
